In 1995, the SIVCBD (Syndicat International des Vignerons en Culture Bio-Dynamique) was founded by 15 French winegrowers. The main objective was to define standards specifically for viticulture, particularly in relation to winemaking, with more flexibility than the biodynamic association DEMETER. The SIVCBD promotes research and experiments in connection with the trialling of biodynamic methods. Only wineries that have already converted completely or within three years to biodynamic viticulture (see also Anthroposophy) are accepted as members.
The group comprises 215 wineries, mainly in France, but also in Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland, with a total vineyard area of around 5,200 hectares (status 2024). Since 2002, the international organisation ECOCERT has also (but not exclusively) acted as an organic inspection body. The community's certification logo is BIODYVIN. There are regular meetings of the members several times a year with various information events, training courses and wine presentations and tastings. See also under organic viticulture.
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
