The Federal Winery Inspectorate, or BKI for short (Beratung - Kontrolle - Information), is a department of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. It is responsible for monitoring compliance with wine law provisions. This includes compliance with the maximum yields by means of the harvest declarations to be submitted by the cultivators of vineyard areas. The aim is to ensure high wine quality for the consumer as well as orderly framework conditions for fair competition in the wine industry. The main tasks are controls and advisory services in winegrowing enterprises. Within the framework of this activity, tastings are carried out, samples are taken and records and wine designations are checked, among other things. See also under Viticultural Institutions.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
