Black Alois

The estate is located in the municipality of Schrattenberg in the Lower Austrian wine region Weinviertel, It is run by Alois Schwarz and his son Reinhold. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vineyards. 75% of them are planted with the red varieties Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Blauer Portugieser, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot, and 25% with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer and Chardonnay. Yield-reducing quality criteria in the vineyard are appropriate pruning, leaf work, thin out and selective hand picking. Depending on the type of wine desired, the wines are aged in steel tanks, large wooden barrels or barriques. The premium wines include, for example, the red wine blend "Grande Reserve" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zweigelt, Syrah) and Weinviertel DAC (Green Valtellina). In suitable years, ice wines are also pressed. Noble brandies (grapes), naturally cloudy grape juice and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
