Black Heunisch

The red grape variety probably comes from Germany. Synonyms are Blue Tokay, Gouais Noir, Hohmann 21/23/24/96, Rothhinsch, Rothhinsche, Schwarzer Heinisch, Schwarzheunsch, Schwarzhynsch, Tokay Blue and Tokay Blue. Confusingly, however, Black Heunisch is also a synonym for the independent varieties Blue Heunisch and Somszoeloe Kék (both without genetic Heunisch relationship). According to DNA analyses carried out in 2016, it originates from a presumably natural cross between white heunisch (Gouais Blanc) x sweet black. It is an all-female grape variety. The variety is no longer significant; no stocks were recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics). See a list of all varieties of the large Heunisch group under Gouais Blanc.
