The "Association Blaufränkischland Mittelburgenland" (VBM) was founded in 1989 with the aim of producing and marketing red wines from the variety Blaufränkisch in the Austrian DAC area Mittelburgenland through wine presentations, participation in trade fairs and publications to position and promote. It is considered the umbrella organization of the middle Burgenland wine industry and includes the communities German Kreutz, Großwarasdorf, Horitschon, Lutzmannsburg, Neckenmarkt, Raiding and Unterpetersdorf and the Winzergenossenschaften of the region. Members of the association are all winegrowers in central Burgenland who are involved in the production and marketing of the Blaufränkisch variety.
The designation "Origin Mittelburgenland controlled with guarantee" (HMKG) is to be understood as a trademark down-to-earth, area-typical Blaufränkisch quality from the Blaufränkischland Mittelburgenland. Through constant quality controls with sensory Exams and wine reviews a cost committee supports these goals. As a figurehead, 20 top wines of the area are determined annually by a jury and presented by the slogan "B - A special from the Blaufränkischland".
