The literal meaning (German: "Wohnblock-Knacker") refers to the aerial bombs of the same name used in the Second World War (in awareness of this fact, one should, in my opinion, use this term rather restrictively). In a figurative sense, it means "smash hit" or "street sweeper" and is used above all in the media industry for particularly successful cinema films. However, this "modern" term is increasingly used for successful products in general, for example also for particularly effective medicines (!) or outstanding wines. See also on this topic under the keyword cinema and TV films, where the most famous works on the subject of wine are described.
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
