The red grape variety comes from the Alsace, Synonyms are Blue Frankentraube, Blue Hartwegstraube, Alsatian, Frankentraube, Grobrot, coarse black, Hartwegstraube, Quille de Coque, Saumoirau, Schwarzgrobe and Schwarzer Hängling. It is not allowed, despite the nicely suggestive synonyms, with the variety Tauberschwarz be confused (Blue Hängling, Hartwegstraube). Whether a connection to the variety Poulsard (Quille de Coque) is not known. According to done in 2013 DNA analysis it comes from a presumably natural cross between Gouais blanc (Heunisch) x unknown variety. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see under molecular Genetics ). The variety was grown in Alsace; the former affiliation to Germany explains the German name. In 2010, no stock was reported (Kym Anderson ).
