Boal Branco

The white grape variety originates from Portugal; it is one of the numerous Boal varieties (see there). Synonyms are Boal, Boal Branco do Algarve, Boal Cachudo, Boal Calhariz, Boal de Alicante, Boal de Calhariz, Boal de Madere and Boal na Madera. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is a presumably natural cross between Arinto do Dão (Malvasia Fina) x Dedo de D ama. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular Genetics). It must not be confused with the varieties Malvasia Fin a or Planta Fina (both with synonym Boal Branco), despite synonyms or morphological similarities indicating this. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
