The winery is located in the municipality of Traben-Trarbach (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. The origins of this traditional business date back to 1623 with the founding of the "Handlungs- und Wechselcomptoir" by the Böcking family. There was trade in coffee, tea, silk, spices, tobacco and wine, as well as banking. Winegrowing began through the purchase of vineyards in the course of the secularisation rigorously carried out by Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821). It was decided to concentrate on Riesling and the estate acquired an excellent reputation. In 1792, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) was a guest of the family and praised the Riesling wine. After ten successful generations, Adolph Böcking died in 1903. After that, valuable vineyards were lost. The Trarbach sites remained in the family, but the quality standard could not be maintained.

Finally, in 2012, the Böcking descendants Leweke Freifrau von Marschall, Denman Zirkle and Sigrid Carroll made a new start. Simon Trös is the cellar master in charge. The vineyards cover almost seven hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Burgberg, Hühnerberg, Taubenhaus, Schlossberg and Ungsberg (Trarbach). They are 94% planted with Riesling, the small remainder with Pinot Noir. The vineyards are partly cultivated according to the guidelines of biodynamic viticulture. The soil is cultivated using a cover crop with various seedings.

The grapes are pressed using a pneumatic cloth press and a traditional basket press. Fermentation is principally carried out spontaneously with the vineyard's own yeasts. The wines are then matured in 1,000-litre wooden barrels. The premium wines include the "Alte Reben" Rieslings with the Burgberg, Schlossberg and Ungersberg site designations. In addition, fine brandies (pomace, brandy), vineyard peach liqueur, Riesling vinegar and organic olive oil (from Crete) are also marketed. The winery is a member of both the Generation Riesling and Slow Food winegrowers' associations. As a special feature, vine sponsorships are offered to ensure the preservation of the oldest plots of the steep slopes.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
