Bordelais

French name for the landscape in the centre of which lies the city of Bordeaux. In a narrower sense, the Bordelais landscape is only the area on the left bank (Rive gauche) of the Garonne between the Bazadais in the south and the Médoc in the north. In a broader sense, the parts on the right bank (r ive droite) are also included. To this extent, the area corresponds to the wine-growing region of Bordeaux in the viticultural sense. There, the transition to the Entre-deux-Mers area takes place. Other neighbouring areas are Sauternes in the south and Graves in the north. In the west, the Bordelais borders on the forest of the Gascogne area. In south-west France, Bordelais is also a collective name for all grape varieties thought to originate in Bordeaux; for example, Baroque, Courbu Blanc, Fer, Folle Blanche, Mérille and Tannat.
