Term (also abbreviated to bota) for a leather drinking bag for wine used in Spain. A wine tube of larger volume is called a cuero. In the past, this was a classic container for farmers and farm workers when working in the fields. Traditionally, the bag was sealed inside with pitch. Today it is mainly produced as a tourist souvenir and is coated with rubber. The pouch is held over the head, which is tilted towards the neck, and squeezed. Through a narrow tube, the liquid jet shoots directly into the mouth. Very similar in terms of enjoyment is the Catalan drinking vessel porrón. The classic wooden barrel used in the production of sherry is called a bota. See also under wine vessels.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
