Département with the capital Marseille in the south-east of France on the Mediterranean coast in the Provence region. Appellations are Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, which is almost exclusively in Bouches-du-Rhône, and Côtes de Prov ence, which extends over the three départements of Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône and Var. In addition to a departmental IGP area Bouches-du-Rhône, there is also the local IGP area Alpilles. In addition, Bouches-du-Rhône is part of the large regional IGP area Méditerranée. The département is one of the largest producers of local wines in France. It produces 85% red wines and 10% rosé wines. They are made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan Noir, Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta), Cinsaut, Merlot and Syrah. Well-known producers are Château de Revelette, Domaine de l'Ile Saint-Pierre, Domaine de Lunard, Domaine de Trévallon, Domaine la Michelle, Mas de Rey and Villa Minna.
