One of the largest Greek wine trading houses with headquarters in Thessaloniki in the region Macedonia
, The company was founded in 1879 by Ioannis Boutaris and is now run by the fourth generation of families by Constantine Boutaris and his daughter Marina. Today it consists of six wineries in Greece
and another in France. Vineyards are owned in almost all Greek wine-growing regions. The large product range includes around 40 labels of country and quality wines, including, of course, the Greek specialty Retsina
, The annual production is around 13 million liters of wine, of which about half is exported to 45 countries worldwide (half of which are exported to Germany).
The most important domestic varieties are Assyrtiko, Agiorgitiko, Moschofilero, Roditis, Xynomavro, the most important European standard varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Silvaner and Sauvignon Blanc. These include OPAP and OPE wines from the best Greek wine regions such as Goumenissa
, where there are branches and wineries. A state-of-the-art winery called "Domaine Fantaxometocho" (German: "Klostergeist") was opened in 2004 on the occasion of the 125th company anniversary at Iraklion in the municipality of Skalani. The branded wine "Cava Boutari" is blended from Xynomavro and Agiorgitiko, matured in barriques for one year and another in the bottle. A top product is the “Grande Reserve Boutari Naoussa” made from special Xynomavro grapes, which is aged for two years in barriques and two years in the bottle.
