bouteille

bottle (GB)
bottiglia (I)

French name for bottle (derived from the Latin butticula = kegs) and not only for wine, but also for beer or milk. It is a colloquial term without wine law meaning. In Austria and Germany, this usually refers to a bottle of wine, regardless of the bottle shape, with a volume of 0.75 liters. But that is regionally different, because in southern Germany is thus usually the lean Schlegel bottle meant. The term "Bouteille lourde" refers to a bottle of heavy glass (lourde = heavy).
