The estate is located in the municipality of Purbach in the Burgenland DAC area Leithaberg
(Austria). The family has been wine-growing for over 400 years. Today it is managed by Birgit Braunstein. The "Pauli's Stuben" restaurant and the "Landgut Braunstein" hotel were founded in 1979 by the parents Paul and Maria Braunstein. The vineyards cover 22 hectares of vineyards in the vineyards Edelgraben, Fellner, Glauberinzer, Goldberg
, Heide and Rosenberg. They are planted 70% with the red varieties Blaufränkisch
, Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and 30% with the white varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay Pinot Blanc and Welschriesling. Viticulture close to nature is practiced. The grape zone is at a height of 60 cm, which means that the grapes can benefit from the reflected floor heat. Likewise, the 130 cm high leaf wall enables better ripening of sugar. Further quality criteria are targeted soil and stick cultivation, Defoliation
, consistent grape reduction and healthy and physiologically ripe grape material obtained by selective hand picking.
Thanks to the grape pick-up point tailored to the house, the grapes are unloaded without the use of pumps, then rubbed with a few exceptions and processed gently. The conical, temperature-controlled red wine stainless steel tanks enable constant pumping (oxygen supply) and a controlled maceration time. The white wines are fermented in a controlled manner in steel tanks. The white and red wines remain on the yeast for up to six months. The classic red wines are stored in large wooden barrels for one year, the wines aged in barriques for two years. Premium wines are different Leithaberg DAC
, as well as the Oxhoft line filled without filtration. Around 70,000 liters of wine are produced annually. Most of it is exported to Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Canada, Norway, Poland, Switzerland and Sweden. Fine brandies (wine, grains), bottle-fermented sparkling wine, vinegar and grape jam are also produced. The winery is a member of the association founded by Birgit Braunstein 11 women & their wines
