The Australian Peter Bright (* 1953) chose in 1974 Portugal
to his adopted home and was at the winery João Pires as a winemaker (today as JP Vinhos property of Fonseca
) active. There he created some wines of international style. At the London Wine Fair International Wine Challenge
earned him the title of "Winemaker of the Year". In 1994 he started his own business and founded his own winery in Alverca with his brother Douro
, Here, wines are almost exclusively made from indigenous varieties such as Baga, Trincadeira Preta, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. However, that did not prevent Peter Bright from doing so Flying Winemaker
to work in a consultative capacity around the world.
In Portugal, he created under the label "Bright Brothers" a number of wines at wineries in the wine-growing areas Beiras, Estremadura, Douro and Ribatejo. Together with a number of other oenologists, he works in the countries of Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, Greece, Italy, Spain and Uruguay. He also participates in these wineries. Together with Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza he founded the winery Fiuza & Bright in the area Ribatejo
where wines are made from French varieties. One of the wines created by Bright is TFN (the name derives from the initial letters of the grape varieties), which is blended on the Quinta des Frades from Touriga Franca (70%) and Touriga Nacional (30%) and aged for one year in barriques.
