The Australian Peter Bright (* 1953) chose in 1974 Portugal
to his adopted home and was the cellar master at the João Pires winery (now owned by JP Vinhos Fonseca
) active. There he created some international-style wines. At the London Wine Fair International Wine Challenge
this earned him the title "Winemaker of the Year". In 1994 he started his own business and, together with his brother, founded his own winery in Alverca in the area Douro
, Wines are made almost exclusively from local varieties such as Baga, Trincadeira Preta, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. This did not prevent Peter Bright from doing so, however, as a so-called Flying Winemaker
to work in an advisory capacity all over the world.
In Portugal he created a number of wines at the wineries in the Beiras, Estremadura, Douro and Ribatejo labels under the "Bright Brothers" label. Together with some other oenologists, he is a consultant in Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, Greece, Italy, Spain and Uruguay and is partly involved in these wineries. Together with Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza, he founded the Fiuza & Bright winery in the area Ribatejo
, where wines from French varieties are produced. One of the wines created by Bright is TFN (the name comes from the initial letters of the grape varieties) which is blended from Touriga Franca (70%) and Touriga Nacional (30%) on the Quinta des Frades and matures in barriques for one year.
