The Frank Brohl organic winery is located in the municipality of Pünderich ( Bernkastel area) in the German Moselle wine-growing region. The farm is run by Jutta and Frank Brohl. The vineyards cover seven hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Marienburg, Nonnengarten and Rosenberg (Pünderich), as well as Goldlay and Mullay-Hofberg (Reil). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (the farm's leading variety with 70%), Müller-Thurgau and Pinot Blanc, as well as the red wine variety Pinot Noir. A special feature are the centenary vines in the Reiler Goldlay ( ungrafted ), for which a vine sponsorship (lease of vines) can be taken over. In return for the rent, one receives a bottle of wine "Edition alte Rieslingreben" for five or ten years.
The vineyards have been cultivated according to ecological guidelines since 1984. Organic viticulture is practised according to the rules of the organic association ECOVIN. This includes pest control with herbal extracts, plant teas and algae extracts (i.e. no herbicides and insecticides), organic fertilisation with compost and manure, as well as soil improvement with mulch, primary rock flour, lime and cover crop between the vine rows. No fining agents or animal clarifiers are used in the vinification process, so the wines are also suitable for vegans. The Rieslings from the best sites are marketed with the site designation. In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslese wines are also produced. Around 40,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
