The wine region is in the northeast Hungary between the much better known areas Eger and Tokaj, The vineyards on tuff soils cover 1,600 hectares of vineyards. There are more than a thousand wine cellars dug into the mountains here. The climate is cool but there is plenty of sunshine. White wines in particular are produced. The main varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Kékfrankos ( Blaufränkisch ), Leányka (girl's grape), Olaszrizling (Welschriesling) and Zweigelt.
