Buena Vista Winery

This historically significant Californian winery is located in the Los Carneros area near the town of Sonoma. It was founded in 1857 by the Austro-Hungarian nobleman Agoston Haraszthy (1812-1869) with 230 hectares of land at the time. The press house built by him in 1862 is now a tourist attraction. Haraszthy expanded the estate to 2,500 hectares of vineyards and maintained offices in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and even London. Due to numerous losses on the stock exchange, the company soon went bankrupt. In 1943, Frank Bartholomew re-founded the company. The oenologist André Tchelistcheff (1901-1994) worked as a consultant for some time. In 1979 it became the property of the German company Racke. After several changes of ownership, the estate was finally acquired in 2007 by Constellation Brands, who, however, sold it to the wine multinational Boisset in 2011. The vineyards cover 445 hectares on slopes facing San Francisco Bay. The wines are made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel. The L'Année brand is a Bordeaux-style red wine. 125,000 cases of wine are produced annually.
