The DO, named after the city of the same name, is located in the Spanish region of Murcia Levant
, The city of Bullas was founded by the Romans. The vineyards are located at 500 to 800 meters above sea level and amount to approximately 2,300 hectares. Monastrell and Tempranillo, which are represented by over 90%, are approved as red varieties. Trial plantings are available with Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Syrah and Merlot. Two thirds are rosados and one third are red wines. The white wines produced in very small quantities are made from Macabeo and Airén.
