Various species of insects that either themselves and especially their caterpillars (larvae) cause considerable feeding damage and soiling in the vineyard on the vine as well as damage in wine cellars. These include the owl moth, cork moth, leaf miner, rhombus moth, spring worm moth, grape berry moth, grapevine hawkmoth and western grapeleaf. Control is carried out conventionally with various insecticides or pesticides, or increasingly with environmentally friendly measures such as the use of natural enemies (predatory beetles) and the confusion method. See also a complete list of all pests and diseases under the keyword vine enemies.
