Caberlot

The red grape variety comes from Italy. It was discovered and selected in the 1950s west of Verona in Veneto by the agronomist Remigio Bordini in an old vineyard. It is thought to be a cross between Cabernet Franc x Merlot, but it could also be a mutation of Merlot. The German Wolf D. Rogosky came into contact with Bordini in the 1970s and created the name Caberlot for the variety. He founded the winery Il Carnasciale in the municipality of Mercatale Valdarno in the province of Arezzo in Tuscany and planted the variety. To this day it is cultivated exclusively by this winery on about three hectares. In 2016, however, no stock was recorded (statistics Kym Anderson).
