Cabernet Dorsa

The red grape variety (breeding number 17-92) is a new breed between zwischen Blauer Limberger (Blaufränkisch) x Dornfelder according to DNA analyses published in 2012. The crossing of Dornfelder x Cabernet Sauvignon stated in the breeding list turned out to be wrong. The cross was made in 1971 by the two Helmut Schleip and Bernd H. E. Hill at the State Teaching and Research Institute for Viticulture and Fruit Growing in Weinsberg (Württemberg). The plant variety protection was granted in the year. Incidentally, the new variety Cabernet Dorio was created from the same parents. The medium ripening, frost hardy vine is very susceptible to downy mildew. It produces fruity, tannin-emphasized red wines with cassis aroma. The variety is cultivated in Germany (242 ha), Hungary (2 ha) and Switzerland (28 ha). In 2016, a total of 272 hectares of vineyard area were designated (statistics Kym Anderson).
