The white grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Calagraña and Navès. It must not be confused with the varieties Albillo Mayor or Cayetana Blanca (Calagraño), despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. The parentage is unknown. According to DNA analyses, there is a genetic similarity with Garnacha. The vine produces rustic white wines. It is cultivated in small quantities in the regions of Basque Country, Rioja and Valenciana. In 2010, 4,794 hectares were reported, but no more in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics). Presumably the 2010 quantities were of the Cayetana Blanca variety (based on the synonym Calagraño).
