Calandre

French term for a special form of distillation in large production plants. The raw materials intended for distillation are heated in the first step in interconnected containers with a volume of several hundred litres (the Calandres). Then the vapours, which contain about 20% alcohol, are distilled to 70% alcohol. For example, Marc marc spirit is produced in Champagne.
