Calastra

The white grape variety (also FR 456-82) is an interspecific new variety between Merzling x GM 6495-3 (Sibera). It contains genes from Vitis amurensis, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1982 at the State Viticultural Institute in Freiburg (Baden-Württemberg) by Norbert Becker (1937-2012). The early-maturing, frost-hardy vine is resistant to both types of mildew. It is mainly used as table grape. Its decorative leaves also make it suitable as an ornamental vine. No populations were recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
