Callus

Term for newly formed tissue in plant, animal and human organisms (also occurs, for example, in bone fractures at the fracture site). In botany, it is used to describe the closure of wounds in plants. The tissue, which proliferates at random, grows over the wound surface like a bulge on all sides. A cork layer is formed on the outside and a cambium on the inside. A visible callus is formed, for example, when ringing, as well as when grafting vines at the point between the rootstock and the scion. This makes it easy and quick to determine whether it is a grafted or ungrafted vine. See also under " Leitgewebe".
