Caloria

The red grape variety (also Pollera 2) originates from Italy. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Sciaccarello (Mammolo) x unknown partner. It is related to the Tuscan varieties Biancone di Portoferraio, Colombana Nera and Pollera Nera. The late-ripening vine produces red wines with low colour and tannin content. It is mainly cultivated in the province of Massa-Carrara in Tuscany and used for blends. In 2016, 45 hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson).
