The red variety (also California G 22-2) is a new breed between Zinfandel ( Tribidrag x Mondeuse Noire, The crossing took place in 1937 in the USA at the Agricultural Experiment Station of the University of California by Dr. Harold P. Olmo (1909-2006). For a while, as a parent was mistaken Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso given or suspected, because Mondeuse Noire was long for this variety.
