The red grape variety (also California G 22-2) is a new breed between Zinfandel ( Tribidrag ) x Mondeuse Noire, The crossing took place in 1937 United States at the Agricultural Experiment Station of the University of California by Dr. Harold P. Olmo (1909-2006). For a while it was mistaken for the father variety Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso stated or suspected because Mondeuse Noire was long thought to be this variety.
