Camaralet de Lasseube

The white grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Camaralet, Camaralet à Fleurs Femelles, Camaralet Blanc, Camaralet de la Seube, Camaralet Femelle, Camarate, Camarau Blanc and Petit Camarau. Nothing is known about the parentage or a possible relationship with the Camaraou Noir variety (with the synonym Camaralet Noir). It is a parent variety of Camaraou Blanc. There are great morphological similarities with the three varieties Ahumat, Arrouya and Penouille. It is an all-female grape variety, which is why it tends to coulure strongly.

The medium-ripening, stable-yielding vine is relatively resistant to botrytis. It produces aromatic white wines with flavours of peaches, cinnamon and pepper that tend to oxidise. The variety is authorised in south-west France in the Béarn and Jurançon regions, where it occupies four hectares. In Portugel, it is mainly grown in the centre and north of the country on 302 hectares. In 2016, a total of 306 hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
