Caña

Description of a narrow, tall wine cup in cylindrical form, used in Spanish Andalusia, from the traditional Manzanilla (a variant of the Sherry ) is drunk. The word means bamboo and probably derives from the customary one used here Venencia (Scoop cup) whose stem is made of this wood (instead of whalebone or silver as in Jerez). Perhaps the term refers to the tavern use "cantar a las cañas (de vino)", which means "singing to the wine glasses" means. The Caña is also a Spanish song form (palo) of flamenco. In this context, the term is due to the use of bamboo canes as a percussion instrument, which are used as castanets.
