DOC area for red, rosé and white wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone covers about 1,800 hectares of vineyards in 99 municipalities in the province of Torino, the municipalities of Cavaglià, Dorzano, Roppolo, Salussola, Viverone and Simone in the province of Biella, and Alice Castello and Moncrivello in the province of Vercelli. Bianco, Rosso and Rosato are not indicated on the label. The Strada del Vino del Canavese (Canavese Wine Route) runs through the municipalities of Chivasso, Agliè, Lanzo Torinese, Torre Canavese, Candia Canavese and San Giorgio Canavese. The Bianco (also known as Spumante) is made from 100% pure Erbaluce grapes. Rosso (also as Novello and Riserva) and Rosato (also as Spumante) are blended in any mixture of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Bonarda di Cavaglià = Uva Rara, Bonarda = Croatina, Freisa and Neretto = Neretto di Bairo (zum. 60%), as well as other approved varieties (max. 40%). The pure red wines Barbera and Nebbiolo are produced from at least 85% of the respective variety, and max. 15% of other approved varieties.
