Cannelino di Frascati

DOCG area for white wine in the Italian region of Lazio. It is a sweet wine, the term "cannellino" ("tube" or "sugar tube") corresponds to "dolce". The wine formerly included in the Frascati DOC area was highly classified in 2011. It is located in the northern part of the Castelli Romani area and covers about 1,700 hectares of vineyards. The zone includes the municipalities of Frascati, Grottaferrata and Monte Porzio Catone, as well as parts of Roma and Montecompatri. It is a very old traditional wine-growing area. In the town of Frascati there were 1,022 taverns documented as early as 1450. Frascati is one of the most famous Italian white wines.

Some of the grapes, which are harvested late, are dried in suitable premises. The alcohol content must be at least 12.5% vol. and the residual sugar at least 35 g/l. The wine is blended from Malvasia Bianca di Candia and/or Malvasia Puntinata = Malvasia del Lazio (to 70%), in any use of Bellone, Bombino Bianco, Greco Bianco, Trebbiano Toscano and Trebbiano Giallo (max. 30%), and other authorised (max. 15%).
