Autonomous Region in the north Spain between the Cantabrian Mountains and the Bay of Biscay. She is from Asturias, Castile and Leon and Basque country enclosed and belongs to the so-called "Green Spain". Viticulture does not have a centuries-long tradition here, unlike the other regions. This is mainly due to the deep and caused by frequent rainfall wet soil. This is why livestock and agriculture with corn and potatoes are in the foreground here.

The preferred alcoholic drinks are here called "Sidar" cider, as well as the Tresterbrand " Orujo lebaniego ". Since the 1990s, however, there are efforts to expand the viticulture. There are the two Landwine Zones (IGP) Costa de Cantabria and Líebana, but no DO areas yet. It is mainly the red wines Alfrocheiro. Hondarribi Beltza. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as the white wine varieties Hondarribi Zuri (but see there) and Picapoll Blanco grown.
