Caracol

The white grape variety originates from Portugal. Synonyms are Cedres, Olho de Pargo and Uva das Eiras. The parentage is unknown. The high-yielding vine is susceptible to botrytis. It is cultivated in the province of Minho, which is located in the very northwest, as well as on Porto Santo (part of the Madeira archipelago). In 2016, an area of 33 hectares was reported under cultivation, with a strong upward trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
