The red grape variety is a new breed between Pinot Noir x Cabernet Sauvignon, The crossing took place in 1982 in the Switzerland at the Swiss Federal Research Institute Changins near Nyon (canton Vaud ). The medium to late ripening vine is resistant to Botrytis, It produces a color-intensive, strong and tannin-rich red wine with spicy aromas of plums and elderberries. The variety is mainly grown in Wallis, but also in Ticino grown. The acreage in 2010 was 10 hectares.
