The red grape variety is a new breed between Pinot Noir x Cabernet Sauvignon, The crossing took place in 1982 in the Switzerland at the Federal Research Institute Changins at Nyon (Canton Vaud ). The medium to late ripening vine is resistant to Botrytis, It produces a colorful, strong and tannin-rich red wine with spicy aromas of plum and elderberry. The variety is mainly in the Wallis, but also in the Ticino grown. The acreage in 2010 was 10 hectares.
