Carmina

The red grape variety (also Geilweilerhof 4-26-4) is a new breeding between Blauer Portugieser x Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), which was confirmed by DNA analyses published in 2012. However, this is based on only 17 DNA markers (see under molecular genetics). The crossing was done by Peter Morio (1887-1960) and Bernhard Husfeld (1900-1970) at the Geilweilerhof in Siebeldingen-Pfalz. The variety yields deep red wines, therefore it is potentially very suitable as a teinturier (dyer grape). However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
