Castel Frères

The huge French trading company headquartered in Bordeaux was founded in 1949 by four brothers of the Castel family. President is Pierre Castel. The company plays an important role in the wine trade, but is also active in France in the trade in cellar and viniculture. In addition to the main segment of wine, a beer brand and various soft drinks are also part of the product portfolio. Through numerous acquisitions and investments from the early 1990s, it is one of the world's largest wine trade companies. In 1992, La Sociéte des Vins de France acquired the Nicolas retailer chain in 1998, the Domaines Virginie in Languedoc in 1999, and the English retailer Oddbins in 2002.

In the possession of the enterprise are also approximately 15 Châteaux in the Bordeaux and in the Provence with a total of several thousands of hectares of vineyards. These are for example Château d'Arcins, Château Barreyres, Château Beychevelle (since 2011, ownership sharing with the Japanese company Suntory ), Château Bousquet, Château Ferrande, Château Montlabert and Château Tour Prignac. There is also a joint venture with the big Chinese wine multinational Yantai Changyu in which Chinese wines are produced and French vines are marketed. Every year, around 500 million bottles are sold in over 80 countries on all five continents. The sales volume of wine in 2006 amounted to € 885 million.
