, According to legend, the municipality of Fonterutoli has an important role in the development of the area Chianti
played. The winery has been owned by the Mazzei family since 1453. Lapo Mazzei was the long-time president of the "Consorzio del Marchio Storico Chianti Classico" (see under Gallo nero
). Today it is managed by Filippo and Francesco Mazzei. The vineyards cover around 70 hectares of vineyards. They have specialized in a few types of wine. The main wines are “Chianti Classico Fonterutoli” and the “Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Fonterutoli” produced for the first time in 1995, as well as the IGT red wine “Siepi” aged in barrels. This comes from the top location of the same name and is a cuvée from Sangiovese and Merlot. In Montebottigli-Grosseto in the Tuscan area Maremma
the Tenuta Belguardo winery was built by the family.
