played. The winery has been owned by the Mazzei family since 1453. Lapo Mazzei was for many years president of the "Consorzio del Marchio Storico Chianti Classico" (see under Gallo nero
). Today it is managed by Filippo and Francesco Mazzei. The vineyards cover about 70 hectares of vineyards. It has specialized in a few types of wine. The main wines are "Chianti Classico Fonterutoli" and the "Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Fonterutoli" produced for the first time in 1995, as well as the barrique IGT red wine "Siepi".
