Castle Reinhartshausen

The estate is located in the municipality of Erbach in the German wine-growing region Rheingau, On the site of today's castle was the ancestral seat of the Knights of Erbach in the 12th century. The following owners were over 400 years the Knights of Allendorf, who founded the wine in 1337. At the end of the 18th century, the estate was owned by the Barons Langwerth von Simmern taken over in 1800 and went to the counts of Westphalen. This built castle Reinhartshausen in its present form. In 1855, Princess Marianne of Prussia (1810-1883) inherited buildings and estates that remained in the possession of this family until 1987. After more than two decades with changing owners, the winery is now owned by the family Lergenmüller, which has been rooted in German viticulture for generations and also in the palatinate Viticulture operates. The 4.5 kilometers long Rhine island Mariannenaue (since the year 2015 a protected origin designation) is with 80 hectares the largest in the Rhine with a viticulture. It is located in front of the castle Reinhartshausen and extends in a westerly direction to the community Hattenheim. The vineyards cover 24 hectares of vineyards on alluvial gravel and Auenlehm the European nature reserve with special favorable influenced by the current climatic conditions. They are planted with Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Every year, around 350,000 bottles of wine are produced by the winery.
