Castle Saarsteiner

Single location in the municipality Serrig (area Saar) in the German growing area Moselle, In 1828, the chief forester Ebenteuer had a slope of the chamber forest on the right bank of the Saar, which at that time was known as Priommenberg, cleared and cultivated as a vineyard. Later, the Trier family Hansen acquired the estate and founded a winery. In 1956 the estate was sold to Dieter Ebert. The to the smaller part to the west and for the most part in a conical vaulting to south-southeast turning or aligned vineyard in 200 to 250 meters above sea level with 30 to 60% slope covers nearly nine hectares of vineyards. The portion planted with rootless Rieslings in 1943 is considered the best parcel. The soil consists of greywacke, blue-colored Devonian slate weathering and brown earth with partly hanging clay and in the lower part reddish inclusions. Especially in the lower part of the rising from the Saar autumn fog promote the Botrytis and thus the production of noble sweet wines. Here mainly Riesling is cultivated.
