The "Wein- und Sektgut Ch. W. Bernhard" is located in the municipality of Frei-Laubersheim ( Bingen area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. It is managed by Hartmut Bernhard. The vineyards cover 11 hectares of vines in, for example, the single vineyard sites Fels, Kirchberg and Rheingrafenberg (Frei-Laubersheim), Kirchberg (Hackenheim), as well as Alte Römerstraße (Volxheim). They are 70% planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Kerner, Silvaner, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Scheurebe and Ehrenfelser, and 30% with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Blauer Portugieser and Dornfelder. The majority of the wines are traditionally matured in large wooden barrels. The red wines are fermented in open mash fermentation, the best of which are matured in barrique. An important branch of production are the bottle-fermented sparkling wines. These mature on their lees for up to 24 months or longer before disgorging. The estate's treasure trove contains mostly noble sweet rarities from vintages dating back to the 1950s.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
