Synonym for the grape varieties Dolcetto and Douce Noire. There is also an independent red grape variety of this name from Italy, which according to DNA analyses carried out in 2006 is neither identical with the Charbono variety (Douce Noire) grown in California, nor with the variety grown in Argentina under Bonarda (also Douce Noire) (ex Wine Grapes). However, the variety is no longer important, and in 2016 no stocks were reported under this name (Kym Anderson).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
