The red grape variety comes from the Piedmont in Italy where it no longer has any meaning today. Contrary to previous assumptions, it was made in 2006 DNA analysis neither identical to the Charbono variety (actually Corbeau = Doux Noire) grown in California, nor to the variety grown in Argentina under the Bonarda name (also Doux Noire).
