Charente

Département in the central west France with the capital Angoulême near the Atlantic coast, which is named after the river of the same name. Together with the western adjoining department of Charente-Maritime, it forms the AOC areas for the most famous French brandy, the cognac, as well as for the liqueur Pineau des Charentes, Charente belongs to the départementale IGP Charentais and the regional IGP Atlantique, South closes the department Gironde or the winegrowing region Bordeaux on.
