The white grape variety (also INRA 1527-78) is a new cross between Palomino x Chardonnay. The cross was made in 1958 in France by Paul Truel at the Domaine de Vassal (branch of INRA). The early ripening vine is resistant to botrytis, but susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot disease. It produces aromatic, rather low-acid white wines of medium alcohol content, which are often blended with Chardonnay. The variety is grown in Languedoc-Roussillon, mainly in the department of Aude. In 2016, a total of 549 hectares of vines were reported in France, with a continuing strong downward trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
