The winery is located in the municipality of Villenave-d'Ornon in the Pessac-Léognan area of Graves (Bordeaux). It was founded in 1967 by André Lurton (1924-2019) through the acquisition of 13 hectares of vineyards from Château Couhins, which belonged to the INRA and which he had already leased for several years. Of this, six hectares are planted with Sauvignon Blanc and seven hectares with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In 1992, Lurton also bought the château and the old cellar from the INRA and renovated both. The white wine, classified as "Cru Classé", is matured for ten months in 100% new barrique barrels. The second wine is called "Château Cantebeau". The red wine is not classified.
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
