The estate is located in the commune of Saint-Médard-d'Eyrans in Pessac-Léognan in the French region of Graves(Bordeaux) and was founded in the 17th century by the lawyer Jacques de Cruzeau. The castle was built in 1912. After a chequered history with several changes of ownership, it was acquired by André Lurton (1924-2019) in 1973. He had the buildings, which had been destroyed by storms, renovated and the vineyards completely replanted. The vineyards cover a total of 97 hectares of south-facing gravel soils, of which 70 hectares are planted with the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and 27 hectares with the white wine variety Sauvignon Blanc. The long-lasting red wine matures for 12 months, the long-lasting white wine for 10 months in barrique barrels, one third of which are new.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
