The winery is located in the municipality of Marbuzet in the area Saint-Estèphe
in the Médoc
(Bordeaux). In the Bordeaux Classification
after the old now no longer valid system, it was last classified in 2003 as "Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel". In 1825 it was bought by the Irish-born family McCarthy. After a rich history with a division into several estates, it was owned by Henri Duboscq in 1952, who later acquired the wineries Château Chambert-Marbuzet and Château Tour-de-Marbuzet. Today, the Empire is headed by the son of the same name. The vineyards cover 58 hectares of vineyards with Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (40%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). The long-lived red wine is aged up to 18 months in 100% new oak barrels. The second wine is named after the old owner family "McCarthy".
