Château Indage

The winery in Náráyangoan on the slopes of the Sahyadri Mountains east of Bombay in the Indian state of Maharashtra was founded in 1982. The owner is Sham Chougule with his company Indage Group (hotel chain and construction industry). He asked the French champagne company Piper-Heidsieck (see under Heidsieck) for support. The young oenologist Raphael Brisbois built a five million euro high-tech winery. The flagship is the "Omar Khayyam", named after the famous Persian poet Khayyam, which is produced using the champagne method. The first cuvée still consisted of 100% Thompson Seedless(Sultana), today it contains Chardonnay (about 30%), Thompson Seedless and Pinot Noir. Furthermore there is the sweeter version "Marquise de Pompadour", the slightly drier "Princess Jaulke" and the Millésime "Celèbre". The still wines are blended from the autochthonous varieties Anab-e-Shahi, Arkavati and Bangalore Purple, as well as the European varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Perlette and Trebbiano Toscano and are also produced as single-variety wines. Brand names are for example Chantilli, Soma, Riviera and Vin Ballet. The vineyards cover 1,500 hectares, with another 5,000 planned. In the meantime, the winery produces about 70% of India's wine.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
