Château La Clotte

The winery is located in the city Saint-Emilion in the area of the same name (Bordeaux). The vineyard is one of the oldest in Saint-Émilion; Clotte means "little cave". The de Grailly family is mentioned as the oldest owner. In 1912 Archambault Marquis de Grailly sold the estate to Sylvain Chailleau. His son George Chailleau (1896-1973) took it over in 1931. He founded one of the first post-war wine brotherhoods. Today the estate is owned by "Héritiers Chailleau" (Héritiers = heirs; these are the three granddaughters). It is from the family empire Moueix managed, which receives three quarters of the yield in return for management and vinification. The rest is sold in the “Logis de la Cadène” restaurant in Saint-Émilion, which is also owned. The establishment is classified as a "Grand Cru Classé", which was last confirmed in 2012. The vineyards cover four hectares of vineyards with the varieties Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%). The long-lived red wine is aged in barriques for 12 months.
