Château La Clotte

The winery is located in the city Saint-Emilion in the same area (Bordeaux). The vineyard is one of the oldest in Saint-Émilion; Clotte means "small cave". The oldest owner is called the de Grailly family. In 1912, Archambault Marquis de Grailly sold the estate to Sylvain Chailleau. His son George Chailleau (1896-1973) took over it in 1931. He founded one of the first post-war wine brotherhoods. Today the estate is owned by "Héritiers Chailleau" (Héritiers = heirs, these are the three granddaughters). It's from the family empire Moueix which receives three quarters of the income in return for the management and vinification. The remainder is sold in the equally owned restaurant "Logis de la Cadène" in Saint-Émilion. The farm is classified as "Grand Cru Classé", which was last confirmed in 2012. The vineyards cover four hectares of vineyards with the varieties Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%). The long-lived red wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels.
